The
picturesque village of Filzmoos lies at the foot of the
scenic Bischofsmütze and Dachstein Mountain peaks. It
is an ideal starting point for hiking, trekking, walking, and mountain climbing
tours. The walks are clearly marked and graded from easy to the
experienced. The Book of Walks which

They
all take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and take
advantage of the numerous mountain alms. The Alpine school will also provide
professionally guided tours and themed hikes.
Haus Reynolds is situated near to the Hofalm toll road, which is the starting point for many of these walks, one of which is the easy walk to the Hofalm and the Almsee Lake. The Oberhofalm is over 300 years old with cosy eating rooms and a sun terrace. The Unterhofalm is 220 years old which also has a cosy restaurant and sun terrace. Both alms are 10 minutes walk from the Almsee lake, an idyllic mountain lake at the foot of the Bischofsmutze mountain. This walk is ideal for families, suitable for the smallest of children and pushchairs.
If
even this sounds like too much exercise then you can always take advantage of
the Horse and carriages which can be organised locally to take you up to the
alms, as well as the ‘Wanderbus’ or local taxi.
Bartls Kids club - new for Summer 2008
There is plenty to keep children entertained in Filzmoos. Bartl has a surprise in store every day, be a detective and search for animals by their tracks, visit the cows and find out where milk comes from and also help out on the farm. Thought you were on holiday in Austria well how about a western day in Filzmoos, travel by horse and carriage to the Almsee Lake where you make a campfire and grill sausages. Then back by horse and carriage to go riding and western dancing. There is also a cookery course at the Pilzhof farm where you can make herb lemonade and wiener schnitzel. The
Filzmoos ‘ Wanderbus’ A special walkers bus runs from mid-May until October, 6 days a week (apart from Saturdays) The ‘Wanderbus’ opens up some fabulous circular tours like for example, from the Bachalm via theSulzenalm or around the Rettenstein, through the Tor, from the Hofalm along the Linzer Weg to the Hofpurglhutte and Aualm. From Neuberg there is also an imposing hiking area over the Gerzkopf, Sulzkaralm, Mahdalm and all without using the car!
As
well as offering glacier skiing, fishing, swimming, mountain biking, tennis and
Golf, Filzmoos has a new leisure centre featuring indoor and outdoor pools,
sauna and solarium, fun court, rock climbing wall, bowling, and outdoor
sunbathing area
The traditional Austrian Family village
is surrounded by green pastures with pine forests and mountains streams and is
also an ideal place for those just seeking the peace and tranquillity of the
flowery mountain meadows. Every Friday evening throughout the summer
season the village band plays in the village center and there are plenty of
restaurants in which to enjoy this experience.
In September the traditional Harvest Festival begins with various events taking place in the village. This culminates in the ‘herding down of the cows’ where the cows are moved down from the mountains for the winter and there is a procession through the heart of Filzmoos with music and food.
