Filzmoos is a typically Austrian village set amongst the spectacular scenery at the foot of the Bischofsmütze mountain and the Dachstein glacier. (2,700m with summer skiing) It enjoys a great snow record - almost guaranteed - and has the advantage that the gondola lift station is in the village centre with skiing down to the village. The skiing in the village is best suited to beginners, intermediates and families but has the benefit of being a part of one of Austria’s largest ski pass areas. The skiverbund Amadé covers over 860km of skiing pleasure in 5 regions and 25 villages with over 860 km of piste.
As well as fantastic snow and skiing conditions, every January Filzmoos plays host to dozens of hot air balloons including the spectacular “night of the balloons” where hot air balloons are inflated and tethered throughout the village. The balloons look like huge lanterns in the night sky and are a sight not to be missed.
Filzmoos offers great skiing for all the family and benefits from being a part of the huge Skiverbund Amadé ski area. The Ski Amadé ski pass covers the 5 areas of:
Gasteinertal Grossarltal Höchkonig Winterreich Salzburger Sportwelt Schladming-Dachstein Tauern

Gentle nursery slopes conveniently located close to the village centre by the Grossberg lift are ideal for beginners. There are three ski schools to choose from in Filzmoos, all offering a high standard of tuition. The meeting place for the skischule "Exclusive" is 200m from Haus Reynolds, at the Rettenegg lift.
The main ski area is the Grossberg where the Moosalm chairlift connects to Neuberg in the next valley. The central Papageno six person gondola gives access to Moosalm slopes for superb runs down to the village.
The black run is reached via the Papageno
gondola and descends from the Schneekene restaurant. You will also be able
to experience the extensive Salzburger Ski Amade region incorporating Flachau
and Wagrain which are all included in the ski pass.
A bus service is provided to Flachau and Flachauwinkel and only takes 20
minutes to Flachau 8er Jet from the
centre of the village and 30 minutes to Flachauwinkl. Return times allow for a
full days skiing. A private taxi (
up to 8 people) can also be arranged locally for a transfer to other ski areas
in the region.
Filzmoos ski schools offer specific boarding tuition as well as ski and snowboard tours. Although there are no created board parks but there are wide open slopes accessed by chairlifts. The more advanced boarders will find plenty of natural terrain and also the opportunity to use other resorts with the skiverbund Amade pass.
All three ski schools offer excellent
tuition for children who will learn to ski whilst having lots of fun.
Starting from 3 years old, your child will be gently introduced to skiing with
lots of fun and games. All three ski schools provide an enclosed area for
smaller children to learn safely. Ski school Bogei even has it’s own clown
show!! Up to the age of 14 years beginners to
expert are graded by ability to ensure everyone is comfortable yet always
challenged. The end of the week is marked by a ski race where all children
participating will receive a medal and certificate.
Supervised lunches are also available.
Filzmoos is ideal for families as the ski schools meet in the center of the
village, at the bottom/ opposite the Grossberg chairlift
which makes it easy for the whole family to meet for lunch
A non-skiing nursery is also available
for non nappy wearing children from 2 ½ years. For younger children please
contact the Filzmoos ski school. Further details on the ski school can be
found at these websites: www.reinhold@skischule-exklusive.at
There are 14kms of cross country trails at the top of the Papegono gondola as well as valley trails. In Filzmoos itself there are 20 kms of popular cross country trials from Filzmoos to Neuberg offering varying levels of difficulty and diverse scenery.
Filzmoos still
has plenty to offer for those wishing to enjoy the winter wonderland experience.
There are 50kms
of cleared winter footpaths leading to cosy mountain huts serving warming food
and drink. Non Skiers can also meet their fellow skiers for lunch as there are
restaurants to be found at the top of the chair lifts and gondola which are
accessible to walkers. There are also romantic horse drawn sleighs running
through the village or up to the picturesque Bischofsmutse mountain or
how about sitting in a deck chair outside a mountain hut enjoying a sunny day.
From the top of the Grossberg lift is the Kleinberg restaurant where toboggans
can be hired during the day to sledge down the 3km toboggan run.
This can also be done in the evening after a pleasant meal and a schnapps
for courage!
When the ski lifts close the place to be
is the Happy Filzmoos which provides the après ski with music and drinking and
is next to the slopes and ski shops. There is a
leisure centre in the heart of Filzmoos which offers swimming (both indoor and
outdoor!), sauna, solarium, fun court, and children’s playground, a bistro,
and bowling.
There is a wealth of restaurants and bars in Filzmoos, all of which are a short walk from Haus Reynolds.
